Your consistent involvement in your child's speech intervention is more impactful than traditional therapists!
Exciting News! PenguinSmart was recently invited by the "Discerning Parenting" podcast to discuss the importance of parent-centered intervention and how they can help kids with speech delay.
Here are some points that we talked about:
- Parent-centered intervention hones in the idea that there's a methodology and a framework to effectively help parents become communication partners and enablers for their children as they grow from being non-verbal to verbal.
- Is parent-centered intervention something better left to be done by the experts? We're not trying to turn parents into therapists, however, in communication training, frequency and consistency are more important than accuracy. It's more important for the children to see sentences being demonstrated to people around them in real-life scenarios rather than waiting for the most certified experts to teach them.
- In PenguinSmart, we are using digital solutions and teletherapy mainly because we want to make sure that the effort to receive the information is not the main effort. The main effort should be spent on implementing the intervention methods and unblocking any obstacles encountered. Therefore in the implementation process, we have trackers to track the exercises along with examples of how they should be done. Also, having someone there to help unblock and guide you in this journey is crucial.
